A MAN from Tilehurst is calling upon fellow enthusiasts to set up Berkshire’s only open-age rugby league club.
Founder Andrew Belt, of Marling Close, is keen to meet other rugby league fans interested in helping to run the club which he hopes to launch next year.
Prospectively titled Reading Royals Rugby League Football Club, Mr Belt would like to hear from potential board members, sponsors, coaches and volunteers at this stage.
The 25-year-old said:
“I would envisage starting life as an amateur club although I would be open-minded as to how far the club could go depending on the level of interest in it.
“As well as expressions of interests from those new to running clubs, I would be keen to hear from those running union clubs in the county who may see the benefits of having a tenant during the summer months.
“Any advice and support I can get would be much appreciated and I look forward to hearing from potential partners in the venture before setting up an inaugural meeting soon.”
Mr Belt intends to base the club in Reading, although the name is a nod to the Royal County of Berkshire to allow the club to potentially play across the county.
Summer seasons usually last from April to August.
