Super League Star Joins Raiders at End of Season Do

Raiders end of season do: Jamie Acton presents the Clubman of the Year award to Reading Head Coach, Alex Fox

READING Raiders Rugby League Club was given a boost at its End of Season Do when a Super League star joined the assembled guests on Saturday (5).

Leigh Centurions prop, Jamie Acton, was driven all the way from the north west by his girlfriend, Rachael, to present the main award at the Raiders’ end of season do at Grosvenor Casino Reading South in Rose Kiln Lane.

Acton presented the Clubman of the Year Award to Head Coach, Alex Fox, before taking part in a question and answer session with the guests and being presented with a Raiders t-shirt on a great night for the club.

Earlier, prop, Ed House had scooped both the Club Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards but had to be content with sharing the Top Try Scorer trophy with loose forward, Dan Neal.

Raiders Chairman, Andrew Belt, said: “It was a fantastic way to cap what has been a hugely encouraging debut season for us in the London & South East Championship.

“For Jamie’s girlfriend to drive him down to join us for a couple of hours before driving off into the night ready for training the next morning was a massive effort by the couple and I speak for everyone present when I say that it was an absolute pleasure meeting them both.

“Jamie was very interested in the Raiders and gave some fantastic advice to the players, as well as some great anecdotes about his time at Leigh.”

Earlier that day, Reading lost its 100% home record, going down 52-22 to a very strong Wests Warriors A outfit in the London & South East Championship. Despite a strong performance from the hosts, with captain, Andy Parr, and scrum-half, John Boucher, scoring two tries apiece, Wests proved too strong and scored a flurry of late tries giving a rather flattering scoreline.
