READING Raiders Rugby League Club held its first AGM recently as they plan for a successful season this year.
The committee, bolstered by new additions, Head Coach, Alex Fox, Communications Officer, Manon Jones, and Welfare Officer, Ben Bragg, agreed to have a second season of friendlies as the club evolves ahead of hopefully joining the West of England League in 2018.
The Raiders are aiming to play eight friendlies between May and July, including the return of the two-legged Kennet Cup versus Swindon, and keep an unbeaten home record in the four prospective games at Berkshire County Sports Club.
Key to this will be the retention and recruitment of players ahead of what should be a challenging season for the largely inexperienced side, who begin pre-season in March.
Mr Fox said: “I can’t wait to whip the boys into shape ahead of what should be a testing season which should provide us with a good gauge of how ready we are to join the league structure next year.”
Off the field, Miss Jones has wasted little time throwing herself into the communications role, launching a new website and Instagram page for the club. The club is keen for a volunteer to help with the commercial side of operations too.
Chairman, Andrew Belt, said: “It’s great to have Manon on board who, in her short time with us, has shown great willingness in promoting the club through social media and the new website. An increased online presence is crucial to getting the message out to current and prospective Raiders and I’m feeling optimistic ahead of the new season.”
There will be a season launch event for players on Friday 24 February with more details to be confirmed soon. If you’d like to join the Raiders, either as a player or volunteering off the pitch, email readingroyalsrlfc@gmail.com
